Oral Surgery Procedures at SLC Family Dental

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are one of the most common types of oral surgery procedures. Generally a simple procedure, tooth extraction can be completed right in our office. During this procedure, Dr. Palmer gently pulls your tooth, being careful not to disturb healthy bone or gum tissue. Wisdom tooth removal, also called third molar extraction, is often more complex and can take up to a few hours to complete.

This minor surgical procedure is performed to save your tooth when a traditional root canal procedure is not completely successful. During an apicoectomy, Dr. Palmer gives you a local anesthetic to numb the area, then opens up the gum tissue over your infected tooth. In addition to removing the root tip and sealing it with a small filling, a small amount of inflamed or infected gum tissue may also be removed.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a specialized oral surgery treatment that involves replacing bone levels in the jaw. Usually caused by missing teeth, bone loss will progress if left untreated. Timely treatment is required to stop ongoing loss of bone and to support dentures or dental implants. A bone grafting procedure involves taking bone from the patient or a donor source and placing it at the site of bone resorption. Once the sutures are in place, the area is allowed to heal for a few months to let the bone grafting material integrate with your jawbone.

Sinus Lift

A sinus lift is one of the most common bone grafting procedures in patients with bone loss in their upper jaw. This procedure strengthens and grows bone in the sinuses located behind your upper teeth to enable dental implants to be placed and secured in the new bone growth.

Ridge Augmentation

Ridge augmentation is a common oral surgical procedure performed following a tooth extraction. During this procedure, Dr. Palmer will recreate the natural contour of your gums and jaw due to bone loss from a tooth extraction or a different oral health issue.

Dental Implant Surgery

Dr. Palmer loves to help patients improve their oral health and maintain a happy smile for life through high-quality dental implants. Dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth and made up of three parts—the post, abutment, and restoration. Titanium dental implant posts are surgically inserted into your jawbone to anchor a new tooth or full set of new Zirconia teeth. Modern dental implant surgery is precise, especially with our in-house technology, including intraoral scanners, digital implant software, and sophisticated 3D printers. You may even be a candidate for same-day temporary restorations, which means not having to suffer another day with an unhappy smile!
